The World project (formerly Worldcoin) announced that it has surpassed 10 million verified users through its Orb iris-scanning devices, with over 20 million downloads of the World App.

As of January 10, 2025, World has reached a significant milestone with over 10 million people verifying their World IDs via Orb devices. The project has expanded its reach to more than 160 countries and recorded over 20 million downloads of its World App. Verified users receive WLD tokens as an incentive for completing the identity verification process.
Building “Proof of Personhood”
World aims to establish a “proof of personhood” system to distinguish real humans from AI agents—a critical need in an era of rapid AI advancements. The project’s blog post dated January 9, 2025, emphasized:
