Starknet Introduces SN Stack for Appchain Development

Starknet, the Ethereum Layer-2 project, has launched SN Stack, a modular toolkit designed to support developers in building appchains. This innovation combines powerful ZK-STARK cryptographic technology with low costs, signaling a new era for the Starknet ecosystem.

Components of SN Stack

The toolkit includes essential elements for appchain development:

  • Starknet OS: Operates the blockchain infrastructure.
  • CairoVM: Executes smart contracts.
  • Blockifier: Builds blocks.
  • Provers and Verifiers: Ensures cryptographic proof integrity.

Three Customizable Options

SN Stack is available in three configurations to cater to different development needs:

  1. Madara: An open-source and flexible framework.
  2. Dojo: Optimized for gaming and advanced on-chain applications.
  3. StarkWare Sequencer: A complete infrastructure solution for high-performance dApps.

Eli Ben-Sasson, co-founder and CEO of StarkWare, commented:

“Projects can now build appchains leveraging world-class ZK-STARK cryptography with costs as low as optimistic rollups.”

The first appchain project using SN Stack, Paradex, served as a design partner during its development.

Growth of Layer-2 Ecosystems

The Layer-2 Ethereum ecosystem has experienced significant growth, with over 100 rollups by the end of 2024—a threefold increase from 2023. This expansion has been driven by rising demand for scaling solutions and new development tools from projects like Optimism (OP Stack), Arbitrum (Orbit Stack), ZKsync (ZK Stack), and now Starknet.

Starknet’s Vision

SN Stack’s customizable and advanced technology aims to empower developers building on Layer-2 Ethereum. This launch aligns with Starknet’s ambition to become the cheapest Layer-2 blockchain, along with plans to quadruple its transaction processing speed (TPS).

STRK Token Performance

Following the announcement, Starknet’s STRK token price remained unchanged, trading around $0.45. The token is still down approximately 80% since its controversial airdrop.
