Azuki Announces Tokenomics for Its New Token ANIME
Azuki, a renowned NFT collection in the Ethereum ecosystem, has confirmed plans to launch its own token, ANIME, with a release expected in January 2025. This follows in the footsteps of other NFT projects like Pudgy Penguins (PENGU), Milady (CULT), and Magic Eden (ME), which have already introduced their tokens.
Azuki’s Tokenomics for ANIME
Azuki’s decision to name its token “ANIME” reflects its ambition to connect the project with the anime culture—a global phenomenon with over a billion followers. The aim is to create a “culture coin” that embodies the anime industry’s influence.
The ANIME token will be released on both Ethereum and Arbitrum, with a total supply of 10 billion tokens, 76.9% of which will be in circulation initially.
Token Distribution Breakdown:
- Azuki Community (37.5%): Airdropped to holders of Azuki NFTs at the time of token launch.
- Community Fund (13%): Managed by AnimeDAO, with voting rights for ANIME token holders.
- Animecoin Foundation (24.44%): Reserved for ecosystem development, project funding, and strengthening Azuki’s ties with the anime community.
- Partner Communities (2%): Airdropped to users staking HYPE, participating in Kaito, Arbitrum community members, and other like-minded anime communities.
- Project Team and Investors (15.62%): Allocated to contributors in the creation of Azuki, locked for one year with a three-year unlocking period.
- Company (7.44%): Allocated to Azuki itself, locked for one year with a three-year unlocking period.
Unlocking Schedule for ANIME
The unlocking process for the ANIME token will follow the distribution timeline provided by Azuki.
Azuki is known as one of the most successful NFT collections on Ethereum, especially during 2021, attracting significant attention due to its unique design. However, the project’s influence has been impacted in recent years with a downturn in NFT trading activity, alongside some controversy over the release of additional collections.
Speculation and Price Surge
The idea of Azuki launching a token first surfaced in early 2024 when the community found evidence suggesting that the ANIME token would be coming. By March, Azuki had announced a partnership with Arbitrum to build a blockchain dedicated to anime culture. Following the announcement of the token airdrop, the floor prices of Azuki-related NFTs saw increases of 5% to 20%.
In line with this trend, several other NFT projects, including Pudgy Penguins (PENGU), Milady (CULT), and Magic Eden (ME), have also launched their own tokens. Another Ethereum-based project, Doodles, has teased the release of its token, while NFT marketplace OpenSea has hinted at a major event.
